{"id":1387,"date":"2026-08-31T15:37:54","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T06:37:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gedes.ens.titech.ac.jp\/?p=1387"},"modified":"2026-08-31T15:37:54","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T06:37:54","slug":"why-are-people-drawn-to-digital-exhibitions-at-local-museums","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gedes.ens.titech.ac.jp\/en\/2026\/08\/31\/why-are-people-drawn-to-digital-exhibitions-at-local-museums\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Are People Drawn to Digital Exhibitions at Local Museums?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\uff1cOverview\uff1e<br>A research team led by Ai Yaotian (\u827e\u5c2d\u5929), a doctoral student (at the time of the research) in the GEDES, Professor Kayoko Nohara, and Associate Professor Xinru Zhu (\u6731\u5fc3\u8339) examined the digital exhibitions at the Ryushi Memorial Museum (Ota City, Tokyo) and found that visitors\u2019 emotional connection is a key factor supporting their willingness to participate.<br><br>As museums become increasingly digitalized, particularly in local museums, the impact of the experiential authenticity visitors feel on their willingness to participate digitally has not been fully clarified. The research team therefore developed an original analytical model by incorporating elements of experiential authenticity in museum experiences into UTAUT2, a theoretical model of technology acceptance. Based on this model, they analyzed survey results from 266 people who experienced the Ryushi Memorial Museum\u2019s digital exhibitions, using structural equation modeling (SEM) and artificial neural network (ANN) methods.<br><br>The results showed that emotional authenticity, one aspect of experiential authenticity that indicates an emotional connection to exhibits, exerts a strong indirect influence on willingness to participate digitally by mediating UTAUT2 factors such as \u201chedonic motivation (enjoyment)\u201d and \u201csocial influence (the desire to share with others).\u201d Emotional authenticity was also identified as the most important factor in the model developed in this study, functioning as a foundation that underpins willingness to participate digitally.<br><br>These findings suggest that when local museums pursue digitalization, they should emphasize not only technical functions but also the creation of emotional experiences that draw on local memories and stories.
